I remember the day

That our hearts became one

The smile on my face everyday

The sadness when you were gone

I can remember the feeling of fullness

Love is beautiful when it’s so new

The anticipation of touch

The smell of me all over you

A time of youth and optimism

No rules and no cares

Holding hands everywhere we went

Kissing in public amid strangers stares

I can remember visions of children

Smiling quietly as daydreams end

Whispering I love you

Hoping we last until the end

Time has gone by so fast

Smiles don’t come as often as before

Happiness faded from this shore

We both have work to do

Bills need to be paid

Kids to be fed

No time for love to be made

I won’t allow myself to be angry

I wished for the hard times to be with you

I now look forward to our slow days together

When I can fall in love anew
