What is a traditional Haiku -- a Japanese poem of seventeen syllables, in three lines of five, seven, and five, traditionally evoking images of the natural world.
What is a modern Haiku -- the majority of haiku practitioners agree at this point that the 5/7/5 syllable count doesn’t translate into English. So remove the syllable requirement but keep the emotions to paint a picture.
T.R Garner's unique take on the modern Haiku in this year's Golden Triangle (Washington, DC) Haiku Poetry Contest. - Theme the beauty of nature in the city.
